There Is No Place Like Home by Madeline Laiche

Man, it has almost been two weeks since I have made my way down to Concepcion, Chile. What a wonderful trip it has been so far!! I have experienced many wonderful things about the culture down here, but one aspect really hit home with me. It seems that in every home in Chile, family is always their number one. It amazed me that every night in my host home the whole family will sit down for their nightly meal, even if it is only a few slices of bread with some jam or avacado. As much as we may try to sit as a family for dinner back in the states, it seems that a late work night or maybe dance classes often get in the way of having the whole family home. Just this last weekend, my host family took me to their mother´s parent´s house for their 52nd wedding aniversary. It was wonderful to see how happy their entire family was to be celebrating the marriage of the people that they loved.  It brought me back to the huge gathering of my family´s for my grandparent´s 50th wedding aniversary a few years back. As much as I miss my family at home, I am starting to feel as if I have a family here in Chile. Last week I was told by Tamara, one of my host daughters, that "I will always have a home in Chile." That just melted my heart!! Even though I am making my way back home in the states next week, I know a little part of me will always be here in Chile.

(Sorry there are no pictures, me and technology still aren´t cooperating haha)
