Take Out Chilean Style by Deanna Rice

This morning at breakfast, Aylin suggested we have lunch delivered today. In the US, we would expect a cardboard box with the contents not tasting much better than the box. Well, that is not the Chilean way. A man arrived at the door at 1:00 with a metal pan covered with foil. The pan was shallow with two handles. Aylin put the pan on top off the wood burning stove and added hot water from the kettle (the family has a gas stove and oven in the kitchen, but the wood stove for heating can also be used for cooking). At 2:00 Victor's father and brother arrived, along with his niece, and the adults sat down to a feast. The foil was removed to reveal a dish containing chicken, pork, and three types of shell fish over rice. It was mildly seasoned with curry. The dish was from a restaurant specializing in Spanish food. It was so delicious! I could get used to this kind of take out! For dessert, we had cherries canned by Aylin. They were wonderful with fresh cream. A wonderful Sunday lunch! (I have photos but am having difficulty posting them. Hopefully, I will be able to resolve my technical difficulties soon.).
