Bittersweet Goodbye by Samantha Johnese

So I have been home for about a week and a half now and it is still sad to think about missing all the wonderful people and experiences of Chile.

During my last day at school, my host teacher, Miss Claudia, and a few of the students' parents planned a very special party for me. Every student in my class made me a goodbye card. It was very hard for me to say goodbye.

Looking back, it was a phenomenal experience but I am glad to be back home in the United States.

  1. Thank you for a fascinating (and moving) blog. I came across it as I am planning a family holiday there next year. I was born in Concepcion but have only been there once since I was three.
The family aspect is very strong as you have seen, and I expect to be smothered by a large extended family.
I'm glad you had such a good time and that Concepcion and the people were so warmly described. Having visited the US several times, some contrasts must have been quite eye-opening.
Your descriptions of the food have made me quite hungry!
I firmly believe travel makes everyone a better, more rounded individual and I hope you have more student trips planned.
