Happy 4th of July to everyone back home in the USA! I`m sure that many
of you are out on boats, grilling, and watching fireworks, but don't
worry about us down here in Chile. The Thomas Jefferson School pulled
out all of the stops today, and it was so fun to see how they
celebrated, especially since this is a holiday that does not happen
during the school year in the US. I don`t think we could have planned it
better ourselves!
I knew the students would be dressing festive for the day, but I had no clue exactly how festive they would be. I didn´t think my students could get any more precious... until I saw them dressed as cowboys, cowgirls, Mickey Mouse, and Minnie Mouse.
Our morning was filled with lots of American-themed activities. We made Statue of Liberty and Uncle Sam hats and badges for everyone to wear. We sang the Star Spangled Banner several times. (I assured the other Misses that it´s a hard song for everyone.) And of course we ate hot dogs and donuts! I´ve never had avocado on a hot dog or manjar in a donut before, but I certainly didn´t complain about these additions!
As soon as we finished our feast, we headed off to an assembly with all of the Kindergarten, Pre-Kindergarten, and Baby School students. Watching each class parade their outfits across the stage was one of the best things I`ve seen since I`ve been here. As visitors to this school, my fellow LSU students and I were so excited to be able to share some aspects of our country with the students. First we read a poem about the 4th of July that we wrote last week, and then we led the group in some good old-fashioned line dancing.
Pre-Kinder C wishes all of you a happy and safe holiday!
