Bon Voyage! by Kenny Varner

Bon Voyage! by Kenny Varner

Tonight was our Bon Voyage get together at Dr. and Ms. Gelpi's house in Baton Rouge.  This event was a time for the program participants to gather with their families and sample Chilean cuisine and beverages as well as celebrate that our trip is only a few days away from happening.  For dinner we had empanadas prepared by Jordan, Pastel de Choclo (a Chilean Shepard's pie), and a variety of other savory and sweet delights.  Dean Laura Lindsay from LSU's College of Education (soon to be College of Human Sciences and Education) attended the event to wish the students well.  In her remarks Dr. Lindsay gave incredibly thoughtful insights about the study abroad process.  Having brought LSU students abroad through the Manship College of Mass Communication, Dr. Lindsay has had experience bringing groups abroad. Dean Lindsay urged the Chile program students to make the most of the experience, to be open to new ideas and ways of being, and to be good citizens of LSU abroad not only helping Chileans come to know more about LSU and see LSU in a positive light, but also to bring back their learnings to share with other LSU students.  Dean Lindsay encouraged the group to journal about their experience and we have asked the students to do the same.  By Saturday we will all be reunited several thousand miles from Baton Rouge, but will be full of energy and excitement about our new home.  So Chile, here we come!
